Preciso melhorar nesse aspecto (tomar cartão amarelo). Hoje tomei um cartão um pouco estranho. Estava indo pegar a bola e o árbitro decidiu assim, então vou aceitar e tratar de melhorar.

Australia on top after day full of wickets

Thirteen wickets fell on the first day at the SCG, where James Pattinson and his fast-bowling colleagues, and then Ricky Ponting and Michael Clarke with the bat, put Australia on top

The Report by Brydon Coverdale02-Jan-2012

In the 129 years since the SCG hosted its first Test, batsmen’s lives have been made infinitely easier. Pitches are now covered. Boundaries have been shortened by ropes. Helmets have allowed batsmen to hook with impunity, and they do so with heavier bats. It is to the credit of the bowlers that the contest between bat and ball remains gripping. So it was on the first day of this match, as James Pattinson and his Australian colleagues, and then Zaheer Khan for India, dominated proceedings.By stumps on the opening day of the SCG’s hundredth Test, 13 wickets had tumbled – more than the 11 that fell on the first day of Test cricket at the ground back in 1882. India’s captain MS Dhoni chose to bat on a pitch that featured some grass, but his batsmen didn’t back him up. Dhoni was the only man to score a half-century in India’s innings of 191, which ended soon after tea, and it was the wrong way for India to start a Test in which they needed victory to retain a chance of winning the series.Briefly, and surprisingly, their total appeared competitive, for Australia’s inexperienced top order wobbled to 3 for 37 against the swing of Zaheer. But through Michael Clarke and Ricky Ponting, Australia wrested back the advantage. At stumps, their partnership had grown to 79, Australia’s score was 3 for 116, and Ponting (44 not out) and Clarke (47 not out) both looked in ominous form.Things could easily have gone badly wrong for Australia after Zaheer’s early strikes. David Warner edged in the first over of the innings, the catch snapped up by Sachin Tendulkar at first slip after it bounced out of the hands of VVS Laxman at second. In Zaheer’s next over, his first ball caught the edge of Shaun Marsh’s bat and was taken by Laxman, placing Zaheer on a hat-trick.It continued a disappointing return to Test cricket for Marsh, whose golden duck followed 0 and 3 in the Melbourne Test. This time he played limply at a ball he should have left alone, returning the favour from earlier the day, when Laxman fell to a similarly poor stroke that was edged to Marsh in the cordon. Both men would be happy with their catches, neither with their choice of shot.Zaheer’s hat-trick ball was negotiated by Ponting, but a few overs later the opener Ed Cowan became Zaheer’s third wicket, trapped lbw for 16 to a ball that struck him just in line with off stump. It was a fine spell of bowling from Zaheer, but the partnership of Clarke and Ponting, both of whom played some fine pulls late in the day, gave Australia a strong chance of a first-innings lead. But as India showed in their first innings, good starts from two men don’t necessarily mean anything. Dhoni finished unbeaten on 57 and Tendulkar, searching for his hundredth international hundred in the SCG’s hundredth Test, made a confident 41 but a distinct lack of support from the rest of the batting order cost India dearly.Again, they were beaten by an excellent bowling performance from Australia’s three fast men, Pattinson, Ben Hilfenhaus and Peter Siddle, who between them collected all ten wickets. Watching the strongly-built Pattinson bound in and attack some of the world’s best batsmen, it is easy to forget how inexperienced he is – this was the first time he had played a first-class match at the SCG.Smart stats

This is India’s 16th sub-300 total in their last 12 Tests in Australia, England, South Africa, New Zealand and West Indies. They’ve lost six of the previous 11, and won two.

India’s average in the first innings of overseas Tests in the last year is 27.29 runs per wicket, which is the lowest among all teams.

Of the 24 wickets that James Pattinson has taken in four Tests so far, 17 have been of batsmen in the top five, and four of those 17 have been dismissed for ducks.

India’s total is the fourth-lowest in the first innings of a Sydney Test since 1990. However, on two of those three earlier instances, the team which was bundled out went on to win the match.

Since the beginning of 2009, Zaheer Khan has taken 46 wickets of left-hand batsmen at an average of 17.52; against right-handers he has taken 40 wickets at 31.27.

This is the first time in the last five years that Sachin Tendulkar hasn’t scored a hundred in his first Test innings of the year.

He betrayed no nerves and struck in the first over of the Test: his third ball pitched on leg and nipped away from Gautam Gambhir, who edged to first slip for a duck that continued his slump. It was tough going early on for India’s batsmen and Rahul Dravid departed for 5 off 33 deliveries when he inside-edged onto his leg off Siddle and was taken by Cowan at short leg. That brought Tendulkar to the crease to a standing ovation, as is the case in every innings he plays these days, and he played some wonderful cover-drives as Siddle bowled full, seeking an edge. But while Tendulkar was calm and classy, his partner Virender Sehwag never looked completely settled. There were a few typical Sehwag flashes and he was lucky not to be caught at second slip on 23 when he edged Hilfenhaus and Ponting put down a simple chance, and a Siddle offcutter beat the bat and sailed over the stumps. Sehwag’s luck ran out on 30 when he got a regulation edge behind off the outswing of Pattinson, who had returned for another spell and bowled full and fast to test the batsmen. It was precisely that sort of delivery that Pattinson used to get rid of Laxman (2), a man who has tormented Australia over the years, especially at the SCG, where his Test average before today was 96.20. Laxman didn’t move his feet and wafted at a drive before he was well set – but it was Pattinson’s outswing that ensured the edge behind. That left India at 4 for 72 at lunch, and although Tendulkar and Virat Kohli steadied and batted solidly in the half hour after the break, the wickets again started to fall. Kohli was done in by Siddle’s aggression – two bouncers were followed by a fuller outswinger and the batsman didn’t move his feet well enough, edging behind for 23.Soon afterwards, Pattinson picked up the huge wicket of Tendulkar, who had looked good in his 41 but played on when he tried to drive a fullish ball wide of off stump. A ton of tons would have to wait. R Ashwin and Dhoni steadied the innings with a 54-run stand but in the last over before tea, Ashwin (20) edged to slip and off the next ball Zaheer fended a catch to short leg to put Hilfenhaus on a hat-trick.After tea, Ishant Sharma survived the hat-trick ball but few more – he also gloved a well-directed Hilfenhaus bouncer to short leg. Siddle finished the innings by having Umesh Yadav caught behind for a duck off a full outswinger – India’s last three batsmen all made ducks. Australia’s lower order showed in Melbourne how important late runs can be; India may rue their tail’s inability to stick around and support Dhoni, who ran out of partners. His decision to bat was sound, but much of India’s batting was not. Their chances might now rest with the bowlers.

Virat Kohli blames ill luck

After India’s worst day of Test cricket in recent memory, Virat Kohli, who top-scored with 44, had the look of a man wronged by the world

Sidharth Monga at the WACA13-Jan-2012After India’s worst day of Test cricket in recent memory, Virat Kohli, who top-scored with 44, had the look of a man wronged by the world. There was a point when he seemed like he actually had a lump in his throat, there was a point when he was angry, there was a point when he gave the Australian bowlers credit, there was a point when he blamed poor luck. Most noteworthy was when he revealed the kind of pressure he has been under, trying to keep his place in the side. “I don’t know why people were after me even after the first game,” Kohli said. “I had scored two fifties before that in the match against West Indies [in Mumbai], and suddenly I was on the verge of being dropped after one match.”Scoring eight hundreds in one-day internationals can’t be a fluke. It’s international cricket as well. I don’t know why people have been questioning my technique or temperament so much. I have been playing at No. 3 in one-dayers, and I have not gone in to bat in very good situations in all of the 70 [odd] matches I have played. All of this is a learning curve for me. I am playing on difficult wickets, in Australia.”As much as I have learned, I have just played six matches before this, and as much as I can learn and adapt to these situations it will be better for me in the future. This is not the end of the world, this is not the last series that is ever going to be played. I have still got to be positive. I have still got to keep working hard and not think about if I am going to get dropped or if someone else is going to play in my place. I really have no control over that. I can only go out and bat. That’s all I am going to do.”Kohli went out and batted today. He got off to a good start too. He admitted he had better batting conditions than those who batted in the top order. Minutes before tea, though, he played a loose stroke, trying to drive length delivery uppishly. “I said this in Mumbai as well,” he said. “I was questioned why I played that shot in the first innings [there]. Cricket always has a thin line between a mistake and pulling off really good shots. Those kind of deliveries, you need to hit for boundaries in international cricket. The way they were bowling, they weren’t giving much. And you need to convert those loose balls into boundaries. Unfortunately I tried to go for one, I couldn’t execute it properly.”Virat Kohli: “I have still got to keep working hard and not think about if I am going to get dropped or if someone else is going to play in my place.”•Getty Images

That, though, has been the story of the tour. “From what I see, we have lost wickets at important stages of the match,” Kohli said. “Even today we had an 80-run [68-run] partnership, and then we lost two wickets before tea. Those sort of balls you need to put away for boundaries if you want to score runs. You just can’t go into a shell.”The Australians came out and played their shots as well. Sometimes they [the shots] fly into gaps, sometimes they don’t. Luck is a very important thing in cricket, which unfortunately hasn’t been going our way in important phases. Just before breaks, after breaks, just before lunch, just before tea … we have lost important wickets at important times in matches. Just when we are about to convert that 80-run partnership into a 150-run one, we lose a wicket. That’s all that has been happening. I don’t think anyone has a lack of temperament or technique. Just that things haven’t been going our way recently.”Kohli was asked if that actually might have more to do with the team not being mentally as strong as is ideal. He said: “I don’t think we are not mentally competing with them,” he said. “We haven’t done well during those important phases in Australia. It’s all about holding your temperament during those important phases, and pulling through, which unfortunately we haven’t been able to do. Some do it well, some don’t. That’s the way the game of cricket goes. So when it goes our way we will make sure we take advantage of it. The game has four days to go. Anything can happen in cricket. They might lose wickets in a cluster. You never know what happens in cricket. It’s a funny game.”Asked if this was the worst day of international cricket he had been part of when playing for India, Kohli, incredibly, said it wasn’t. “I don’t think so,” he said. “We have had days when we have fielded longer than this. It’s just one day. We still have four days left. I don’t rate this as the worst day of Test cricket I have experienced.”

Warriors eye victory after late strikes

Nathan Coulter-Nile put Western Australia on target for victory as South Australia’s top order suffered serious jitters on the third afternoon in Adelaide

Nathan Coulter-Nile put Western Australia on target for victory as South Australia’s top order suffered serious jitters on the third afternoon in Adelaide. Set 353 to win after Liam Davis and Adam Voges led the Warriors in the second innings, the Redbacks stuttered to 3 for 23 at stumps, still 330 short of their goal with a day to play. The captain, Michael Klinger, was still at the crease on 12, but had just lost his partner Tom Cooper, who was run out from the final ball of the day. Cooper drove the first ball he had faced to point and took off for a single, but was caught short by Davis’ throw when sent back by Klinger.Coulter-Nile had already accounted for Daniel Harris, who was caught behind for a duck, and Callum Ferguson, who was sharply snaffled at slip by Voges for 11. It was fitting that Davis and Voges both had an impact in the field, for they were the ones who rescued Western Australia from a shaky start to their second innings, as Gary Putland and Peter George reduced them to 3 for 21.Putland’s fine match continued – he took eight wickets for the game – but a 164-run stand between Davis and Voges ensured that Western Australia, who took first-innings points, extended their advantage significantly. Davis (93) and Voges (89) both fell short of centuries, but the Redbacks will need something special on the final day to prevent the Warriors celebrating victory.

New Powerplay conditions 'tricky' – Dhoni

MS Dhoni, the India captain, has said that adjusting to the ICC’s revised playing conditions regarding Powerplays will be “tricky” during the ODI series against England

ESPNcricinfo staff13-Oct-2011

MS Dhoni will have to have new plans for the Powerplays•Associated Press

MS Dhoni, the India captain, has said that adjusting to the ICC’s revised playing conditions regarding Powerplays will be “tricky” during the ODI series against England, which begins in Hyderabad on October 14. The changes to the playing conditions took effect on October 1, and India and England will be using them for the first time in this series.Teams will have to start the batting and bowling Powerplays at the beginning of any over between the 16th and the 36th over for a full game. Under the previous playing conditions, teams could begin the Powerplays from the start of the 11th over to the start of the 46th over.”It’s a bit tricky as we have not yet played any match under this new Powerplay,” Dhoni told . “It would certainly need a different approach as the second and third Powerplay will now be taken within the 16th and the 40th over.”Earlier, while chasing, teams would be happy to keep the batting Powerplay for the last five overs. But now we have to make few changes in tactics. It will have different results till we get used to it.”The other major change to the playing conditions is the use of two new balls – one from either end – during an innings. The mandatory change of ball that took place at the end of the 34th over has been done away with. Dhoni said this amendment could reduce the amount of reverse swing because each ball will be only 25-overs-old.”A bit of swing will definitely be there but there may not be as much reverse swing as we expect in the subcontinent,” he said. “Now the reverse swing also depends a lot on the nature of outfield and how you make the ball, but of course legally.”The home ODIs against England are India’s first international matches since the poor summer in England, where they lost the Test series 0-4 and the ODIs 0-3. It was primarily the inability of India’s bowlers to contain that led to the defeats in the ODIs.”During the tour of England, performance of the batsmen was impressive. Here we have a different bowling department and it’s an opportunity for them to do well in home conditions,” Dhoni said. “They have played a lot of IPL but this will be a different ball game.”We have had a few youngsters who did well in England. Also the wickets were very different out there. For us what matters most is good performance in all three departments.”
