Brendan Taylor, uncapped trio in 27-man Zimbabwe training squad

No room for Cephas Zhuwao, Wellington Masakadza and Tarisai Musakanda in the group, which will be trimmed for the four-ODI series against the UAE

Liam Brickhill25-Mar-2019Zimbabwe have picked three uncapped players in a squad of 27 to train together in preparation for the home ODI series against the UAE, to be played next month. Star batsman Brendan Taylor, whose stint with Lahore Qalandars in the PSL was cut short by a calf injury, is also part of the squad, suggesting that he will have returned to full fitness ahead of the first ODI on April 10.Two of the uncapped players – left-arm spinner Ainsley Ndlovu and middle-order batsman Charles Kunje – play for Matabeleland Tuskers, while offspinner Tony Munyonga debuted for Rising Stars last season and has since moved to Eagles.

The 27-man training squad

Hamilton Masakadza, Brendan Taylor, Brian Chari, Solomon Mire, Tinashe Kamunhukamwe, Craig Ervine, Sean Williams, Peter Moor, Sikandar Raza, Timycen Maruma, Regis Chakabva, Kyle Jarvis, Tendai Chatara, Richard Ngarava, Chris Mpofu, Donald Tiripano, Brandon Mavuta, Ainsley Ndlovu, Richmond Mutumbami, Charles Kunje, Natsai M’shangwe, Ryan Burl, Elton Chigumbura, Tendai Chisoro, Roy Kaia, Carl Mumba, Tony Munyonga

Some familiar names from the fringes also returned to the mix: batsmen Roy Kaia and Timycen Maruma, wicketkeepers Richmond Mutumbami and Regis Chakabva, and legspinner Natsai M’shwangwe have all been recalled on the strength of their performances this season in franchise cricket.Kaia, Chakabva and Maruma all scored hundreds in the Pro50 tournament, while Maruma was also the leading runscorer in the Logan Cup, where he guided Mountaineers to the title with 409 runs at 81.80.Also returning to the national frame is fast bowler Carl Mumba. Mumba was on the sidelines for a year after seriously injuring his knee during Zimbabwe’s tour of Sri Lanka in 2017, but marked his return to professional cricket with 8 for 24 in a Logan Cup match at the beginning of the season, and could now force his way back into the national team. The experienced core of the national team is in place: captain Hamilton Masakadza, Sikandar Raza, Sean Williams, Tendai Chatara, Kyle Jarvis, Elton Chigumbura and Craig Ervine, who will head into the training camp in red-hot limited overs form. Ervine stormed through the Pro50 and Domestic T20 competitions, averaging 211 at better than a run a ball as he topped the local fifty-over batting chart, and carried that form into the T20s, during which he was again leading run-scorer as he powered Tuskers to the title with 328 runs at a strike rate of 154.71.There were also a couple of notable absences from the squad, with hard-hitting opener Cephas Zhuwao overlooked and left-arm spinner Wellington Masakadza unable to force his way in despite decent domestic limited-overs returns. Batsman Tarisai Musakanda has also fallen out of favour after an unspectacular season, while seamer Daniel Jakiel has not been called upon despite topping the Pro50 bowling table with 13 wickets at 11.84.The ODIs against UAE are scheduled for April 10, 12, 14 and 16, all at Harare Sports Club. Before the series gets underway, UAE will face Zimbabwe A in a 50-over warm-up match at Old Hararians Sports Club on April 8, two days after their arrival in the country.

Imam-ul-Haq's second successive century bags Yorkshire Roses honours

Pakistan opener’s 117 helps make light work of Lancashire’s paltry total of 294

ECB Reporters Network supported by Rothesay 12-Aug-2025Yorkshire 295 for 3 (Imam 117, Luxton 77, Shetty 1-35) beat Lancashire 294 for 7 (Jones 102, White 2-66) by seven wickets Group B leaders Yorkshire maintained their 100 percent winning start to this season’s Metro Bank One-Day Cup as they confidently chased 295 to beat Lancashire by seven wickets at Clifton Park in York thanks to a second successive century for in-form overseas opener Imam-ul-Haq.The White Rose won their third successive game, beating the previously unbeaten Red Rose, who had won one and had the other washed out.Lancashire posted a 294 for 7 total thanks largely to an entertaining opening 102 off 88 balls from Michael Jones in front of a sell-out 4,500 crowd. But Imam was the cornerstone of Yorkshire’s reply with 117 off 124 balls and shared a defining 153 for the second wicket with Will Luxton, 77 off 63. They won with 19 balls remaining.Classy Pakistani left-hander Imam is now the leading run-scorer in this season’s One-Day Cup with 331 having hit 10 fours and five sixes. He hit a career best 159 in victory at Northamptonshire last Friday.Ormskirk-born ex-Red Rose Jones posted his first century since rejoining from Durham over the winter. Inserted, Lancashire started well as Jones reached a 33-ball fifty and helped them to 100 for one in the 18th over.Either side of losing George Bell lbw playing to leg against two-wicket seamer Jack White – 43 for 1 after seven – Jones hoisted three sixes over long-on and long-off and hit one arrow straight off Ben Coad’s seam.He later pulled successive sixes off Matthew Revis towards the latter stages of a 92-run stand with his captain Marcus Harris, who was the first of two wickets to fall in as many overs as the score fell to 136 for 3 in the 24th.Harris was caught behind driving at Revis for 32 before Ben Coad trapped Josh Bohannon lbw without scoring. Jones reached his century off 79 balls and hit seven sixes in all. But the visitors were checked impressively through the middle of their innings. They were limited to 40 runs from the end of the 25th over – 143 for 3 – to the end of the 35th, where they reached at 183 for four having lost Jones slicing White out to deep cover.Replays suggest George Balderson was reprieved on 18 as he pulled Dan Moriarty for four. Him stepping on off-stump in the process went unnoticed by the umpires. Balderson made a dynamic 70 off 48 balls as Lancashire fell just short of 300 in excellent batting conditions.Tom Bailey had Adam Lyth caught behind driving early in Yorkshire’s chase, which fell to 16 for 1. But Luxton kicked things into life by taking three fours and six – all through leg – off Will Williams’ first four balls, in the 11th over, as the score moved to 57 for one. From there, Luxton and Imam cruised along against a Lancashire attack lacking depth, understandable with half a dozen bowlers on Hundred duty.By the time Luxton reached his fifty off 42 balls, Yorkshire were 107 for one after 20 overs. Imam’s third in as many matches – this off 72 balls – followed shortly afterwards. When Luxton miscued Charlie Barnard’s left-arm spin to long-on, Yorkshire were still a long way ahead at 169 for two in the 30th over.Imam reached his latest hundred off 118 balls by pulling Bailey for his third six before falling caught at midwicket on the pull against Arav Shetty’s spin – 220 for three in the 37th. This was the fourth time in his career he has scored List A centuries in successive matches.James Wharton and Revis wrapped things up with 41 apiece in an unbroken fourth-wicket stand of 75.

Italy make history by qualifying for 2026 T20 World Cup

Netherlands joined Italy in securing qualification but Scotland were knocked out

ESPNcricinfo staff11-Jul-2025Italy have secured qualification for the 2026 men’s T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka, despite losing to Netherlands at The Hague. Next year’s tournament will mark Italy’s first appearance at a cricket World Cup. Netherlands also qualified for the event after comfortably chasing 135.Scotland, who have featured in the last four editions of the T20 World Cup, were knocked out after suffering a last-ball defeat against Jersey earlier in the day. Despite pulling off a one-wicket heist, Jersey were also knocked out after Netherlands beat Italy. Both Italy and Jersey were level with five points, but Italy ended up progressing to the 2026 T20 World Cup, by virtue of a superior net run-rate.Italy only needed to avoid a heavy defeat, which they did by stretching Netherlands’ chase to 16.2 overs. They confirmed their place in next year’s T20 World Cup in the 15th over before Netherlands completed their job and joined Italy in the event. After having opted to bat, Italy lost both their openers, Justin Mosca and Emilio Gay, within three overs and when their captain Joe Burns (22) fell in the seventh over, they were 41 for 3. Wicketkeeper-batter Marcus Campopiano also fell cheaply, leaving Italy at 46 for 4 in the ninth over. Ben Manenti then rallied along with the lower order to help Italy post a relatively competitive 134 for 7. Left-arm spinner Roelof van der Merwe was the pick of the bowlers for Netherlands, returning 3 for 15 in four overs, including the key wicket of Burns.Manenti found support from No. 7 Grant Stewart (25 off 16) and No. 8 Anthony Mosca (13* off 14). Italy took 33 off the last three overs, including 15 off the penultimate over bowled by allrounder Bas de Leede.Netherlands celebrate their tournament win•International Cricket Council

Netherlands then dashed out of the blocks, hitting 66 for no loss in the powerplay in their chase. Max O’Dowd and Michael Levitt extended their opening stand to 71 before Crishan Kalugamage struck in the eighth over to dismiss Levitt for 34 off 25 balls, an innings which included five fours and a six. O’Dowd and captain Scott Edwards then put on an unbroken 64-run partnership for the second wicket to see Netherlands home.Kalugamage finished with figures of 1 for 25 in his four overs and though Harry Manenti didn’t strike on the day, he ended the Europe regional final as its top wicket-taker. He took eight wickets at an average of 9.62 and economy rate of 7.70 in three matches. As for Jersey, they sealed their first-ever win against Scotland, but their joy was short-lived with the result of the Italy-Netherlands fixture not going in their favour. In pursuit of 134, Jersey were cruising at 81 for 1 in the 12th over, but the wicket of Nick Greenwood triggered a collapse. Jersey lost 8 for 48 and were left needing five off four balls. Captain Charles Perchard and No. 11 Jake Dunford picked off 2,1,1,1 to keep Jersey in the race before Netherlands and Italy qualified at their expense.Fifteen teams have qualified for the men’s T20 World Cup 2026 so far. The East-Asia Pacific qualifier will see three more sides qualify from the competition while two further teams will make it through from the Africa qualifier.

Knight Riders desperate for their momentum to turn

They’ve lost four matches on the trot – not the best place to be when you have to play IPL 2018 finalists Sunrisers Hyderabad, at their home ground

The Preview by Varun Shetty20-Apr-20198:57

Dasgupta: KKR bowlers haven’t done anything at all

Big picture

Sunrisers Hyderabad were able to snap their three-match losing streak dominantly at home against Chennai Super Kings on Wednesday. Kolkata Knight Riders, on the other hand, missed out narrowly against Royal Challengers Bangalore on Friday and now have four consecutive losses. They’re now tied on eight points with Sunrisers, but having played one more game, and more worryingly, lost three in three at home, Knight Riders might be hitting their panic buttons. In theory, they are only two points behind the fourth-placed Kings XI Punjab. they’re also the team with the worst form in the IPL at the moment, and have to turn it around in an afternoon game against Sunrisers in Hyderabad: that is fewer than 48 hours between games.Captain Dinesh Karthik said after the loss to RCB that the situation can sometimes get overwhelming; that it can become difficult to see where the next win is coming. If that has crept in, the silver lining for Knight Riders is that the last time they won, they were on the road in Jaipur. Karthik still believes one win is all they would need to switch the momentum in their favour.Sunrisers won’t be letting their own momentum slip too easy. They have six matches remaining, and only two of those are at home. It will also be the beginning of the end for their star opening pair, with Jonny Bairstow expected to leave for the England World Cup camp on April 24, and David Warner to follow soon after. They’ll be looking to squeeze every last bit of that advantage with the knowledge that they need at least four of their six remaining games to stay in contention.

Form guide

Sunrisers: beat Super Kings by six wickets, lost to Capitals by 39 runs, lost to Kings XI by six wickets
Knight Riders: lost to Royal Challengers by ten runs, lost to Super Kings by five wickets, lost to Capitals by seven wickets

In the news

It has rained in Hyderabad for two consecutive afternoons – around the time the match is scheduled to start. On Saturday, the ground was completely covered as a thunderstorm accompanied the Sunrisers’ bus into training. However, several weather services have forecast a clear afternoon on Sunday.Knight Riders did not train on match eve.Robin Uthappa lends a helping hand to Andre Russell•BCCI

Previous meeting

The second match of the season, when Sunrisers’ new opening pair showed the first glimpse of what’s to come, putting up 118 and helping Sunrisers post 181 in Kolkata. Unfortunately for them, it also turned out to be the star of Andre Russell’s outrageous season, his 19-ball 49 helping them scale down the target with three balls to spare.

Likely XIs

Sunrisers Hyderabad:1 David Warner, 2 Jonny Bairstow (wk), 3 Kane Williamson (capt), 4 Vijay Shankar, 5 Deepak Hooda 6 Yusuf Pathan, 7 Rashid Khan, 8 Bhuvneshwar Kumar, 9 Shahbaz Nadeem, 10 Sandeep Sharma, 11 Khaleel AhmedKolkata Knight Riders: 1 Chris Lynn, 2 Sunil Narine, 3 Nitish Rana, 4 Robin Uthappa, 5 Dinesh Karthik (capt & wk), 6 Shubman Gill, 7 Andre Russell, 8 Piyush Chawla, 9 Kuldeep Yadav/KC Cariappa, 10 Prasidh Krishna, 11 Harry Gurney

Strategy punt

  • The last time they met, Knight Riders did not open with Sunil Narine after he sustained a finger injury, going instead with Nitish Rana. If they go that way again, Shubman Gill could go back to opening – where his only fifty of the season has come – and allow Robin Uthappa to go back to a more suitable No. 3 after his 9 off 20 balls against Royal Challengers
  • Knight Riders may also think about resting Kuldeep Yadav who has currently taken four wickets in nine innings at 71.5, his worst returns in an IPL season. KC Cariappa is an option to replace him
  • Kane Williamson is yet to bat beyond ten balls this season. He could be allowed time to settle down by promoting someone like Yusuf Pathan to No. 4 should the openers provide another big start

Stats that matter

  • Warner and Bairstow have put on six 50-plus partnerships in eight innings this season. Three of those have been century stands
  • Having taken no wickets in the first three matches and going at 10.6 an over, Bhuvneshwar has turned it around with five wickets in the last five games at an economy of 7 per over
  • Knight Riders have won 71.4% of the matches in which Kuldeep has gone at lesser than 8 per over. On the flip side, they’ve lost 72.7% of the time when his economy is greater than 9 per over
  • Knight Riders need one more win to become the sixth T20 team to have 100 wins

CSA not yet giving up on GLT20's future

The board has appointed a task team to present a new business model for the tournament such that it can grow the cricketing fan base as well as turn a profit

Firdose Moonda14-Feb-2018A task team appointed by Cricket South Africa (CSA) has been asked to present a new business model for the T20 Global League such that a 20-over tournament can both grow the cricketing fan base and turn a profit in order to put South Africa on the world’s T20 landscape. The team will present its plans on March 31 to the Members’ Council, the decision-making body made up of the 12 provincial presidents, who rejected a proposal presented at a board meeting in Durban because they wanted more options to consider. The Members’ Council will take the final decision on whether the tournament will go ahead or not.The council were not in favour of the most recent model, which moved away from private ownership to a centrally owned CSA-run league – which also threatened the existing domestic game – but the CSA’s acting CEO Thabang Moroe, who is on the task team, told ESPNcricinfo that both the Members’ Council and the board want to see the tournament go ahead in some form.”It was not so much about rejecting the proposed model,” Moroe said. “The Members’ Council were of the opinion that a number of options needed to be considered to come up with the best possible model. There is general agreement that the final model should be based on growing CSA’s fans base to draw new fans to the game and produce a viable alternative source of revenue.”Growing the local fan base is part of the reason the proposal presented to the board at the beginning of February opted for a league that was owned and run by the CSA, as opposed to the original tournament in which all but one team was foreign owned. Three IPL owners, two PSL teams, and businesspersons based out of the UAE and Hong Kong were announced as owners of seven of the eight teams. However, contracts were signed and no money changed hands.Players who were contracted for the original event did receive contracts and were subsequently paid – foreign players received 50% and local players 60% of their total fee – and the postponement of the inaugural event cost CSA US $14 million. They had forecast that staging the event would amount to losses of US $25 million and are now aiming for an event which will only cost US $6 million to run per year – with fewer foreign players – for the first three years.Though the most cost-effective model was not approved by the Members’ Council, Moroe aims to present them with something better when they meet next on March 31. He also offered an assurance that a new T20 tournament will not crowd out the current domestic set-up, as has been feared.”The T20 [league] will be a product for fan and economic growth,” Moroe said. “The one-day cup and the Sunfoil Series four-day competitions are cricket-specific and will continue to operate as key elements of CSA’s talent and development pipelines to ensure that our future players are well-prepared to take the step up to international level.”A GLT20, however, will still not be possible without a host broadcaster and title sponsor, both of which were absent when the original tournament was postponed. Moroe confirmed those are “the two most important initial objectives,” and that negotiations were “underway with interested parties.”

Sri Lanka call up Ratnayake, Tharaka for England Tests; Nissanka also back

Jeffrey Vandersay, who played his lone Test back in June 2022, has also been included

ESPNcricinfo staff07-Aug-2024Sri Lanka have named uncapped right-arm seamer Milan Rathnayake and fast-bowling allrounder Nisala Tharaka in an 18-member squad for the three-match Test series against England later this month. The squad also marks the return of Pathum Nissanka in the longest format. Nissanka made his Test debut in March 2021 but has not played a Test match since the middle of 2022, having since been displaced by Nishan Madushka at the top of the order.Legspinner Jeffrey Vandersay, who played his lone Test back in June 2022 against Australia, has also been brought back after an impressive showing in the second ODI against India where he picked a career-best 6 for 33.This is a first call-up for 33-year-old Tharaka, a veteran of 107 first-class games in which he has picked 257 wickets and scored 2358 runs with a highest score of 107. His most recent performance of significance was for Sri Lanka A against Afghanistan A in May when he took six wickets for 42 runs in the second innings.Rathnayake, 28, had been selected in Sri Lanka’s Test squad earlier, most recently for a one-off Test against Afghanistan but is yet to get a game. He has played 39 first-class matches and picked 79 wickets and also scored 633 runs with a highest score of 59. Rathnayake has been a consistent performer in the Sri Lanka A side.ESPNcricinfo Ltd

Dhananjaya de Silva will lead the side with Kusal Mendis as his deputy. Sri Lanka have gone with a pace-heavy squad which includes Asitha Fernando, Vishwa Fernando, Kasun Rajitha, Lahiru Kumara, Tharaka and Ratnayake as the fast bowlers. Angelo Mathews, who has had occasional success with his seam bowling in England, is also in the squad.Vandersay, Ramesh Mendis and Prabath Jayasuriya are the main spin options. Ramesh and Jayasuriya have been Sri Lanka’s primary Test spinners over the past 18 months.Although many of the players named in this squad are currently involved in the ODI series against India, six Test specialists flew on Saturday to England to begin training. Vishwa also played three County Championship matches for Yorkshire as part of his own preparation. The first Test between Sri Lanka and England gets underway on August 21 in Manchester before the teams travel to Lord’s for the second Test on August 29. They will finish with the third Test at The Oval on September 6.

Cricket Canada's inaugural T20 league to begin in June

The Toronto Nationals, Montreal Tigers, Ottawa Royals, Vancouver Knights and Winnipeg Hawks and the Caribbean All-Stars will make up the six-team tournament

Peter Della Penna16-May-2018Global T20 Canada, the new six-team franchise league organized by Cricket Canada and Mercuri Group based out of Chennai, will take place between June 28 and July 15.Each team will play six games in the league phase: an initial round-robin followed by a single-match second round in which the teams will play one other opponent. The top four teams after the league phase advance to the playoffs beginning on July 12.Similar to the IPL, the top two teams will play in the first playoff, with the winner going into the tournament final while the loser gets a second chance by playing the winner of the first elimination playoff between the third and fourth-placed teams. The final will take place on July 15 at 2pm local time, the same day as the FIFA World Cup Final in Moscow.Though Cricket Canada president Ranjit Saini told ESPNcricinfo in February that the tournament would be spread across three venues in the greater Toronto area, the schedule unveiled this week lists all games to be held at Maple Leaf Cricket Club, 25 miles north of downtown Toronto in King City.Saini had indicated that there may be difficulty getting permits for access to certain venues such as the centrally-located Toronto Cricket, Skating & Curling Club, which hosted the Sahara Cup ODI series between India and Pakistan in the late 1990s.While no permanent infrastructure exists at Maple Leaf CC beyond a small clubhouse, the venue has installed temporary seating in the past to accommodate fans for a quadrangular series in 2008 between Canada, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe. The Global T20 Canada website lists the seating capacity for the tournament matches at Maple Leaf CC as 7,000, meaning temporary bleachers are expected to be brought in once more for the tournament.Though the entire tournament will take place at Maple Leaf CC, Global T20 Canada’s franchise names represent five cities across Canada as well as one team called “Caribbean All-Stars”. The other five teams are the Toronto Nationals, Montreal Tigers, Ottawa Royals, Vancouver Knights and Winnipeg Hawks. The tournament is scheduled to have a player draft on May 26 to fill out team rosters. However, no information has been provided by Cricket Canada or tournament organizers regarding any foreign players in the draft pool or regarding fixed salaries tied to a player’s draft slot akin to the Caribbean Premier League. Saini had told ESPNcricinfo in February that only a minimum of four Canada players would be required in each 15-man squad, with no mandate that any Canada players be in a starting XI.

ODI WC warm-ups: England dominate, Shafali impresses, rain halts Colombo clashes

Sciver-Brunt scored century in a game where India’s batting collapsed in the absence of senior players

ESPNcricinfo staff25-Sep-2025Without Harmanpreet Kaur, Smriti Mandhana, and Pratika Rawal, India’s batting order crumbled against England at Bengaluru’s Centre of Excellence ground in a warm-up fixture ahead of the ODI World Cup. Chasing 341, India were all out for 187, with Arundhati Reddy not coming out to bat due to a leg injury she sustained while bowling.Wicketkeeper Uma Chetry, who was included in the squad in place of the injured Yastika Bhatia, made a promising 45, while captain Jemimah Rodrigues top-scored with 66 off 68 balls. Richa Ghosh, Deepti Sharma, and Sneh Rana combined to make just 43 runs in the middle order.Related

Sent in to bat, England, propelled by captain Nat Sciver-Brunt’s brisk 120 and Emma Lamb’s 84, piled up 340. India’s pace spearhead Renuka Singh struck in her first over to remove Tammy Beaumont, and the hosts had both Amy Jones and Heather Knight back before the halfway stage. However, Sciver-Brunt and Lamb’s 173-run stand put England in front, despite Kranti Goud’s three-wicket haul later in the innings.Shafali Verma notched up 70 off 49•Getty Images

Shafali Verma, left out of India’s World Cup squad, scored a blistering 49-ball 70 in India A’s four-wicket win over New Zealand in a rain-affected fixture. After New Zealand posted 273 for 9 on the back of Izzy Gaze’s unbeaten 101 at No. 7, multiple rain interruptions left India chasing a revised target of 225 in 40 overs. Shafali’s brisk knock – which included 11 fours and a six – gave the innings early momentum. Captain Minnu Mani remained unbeaten on 39, while wicketkeeper Madiwala Mamatha contributed a crucial 56 not out off 60 balls at No. 8.Earlier, Sayali Satghare, the reserve seamer for India at the World Cup, picked up three wickets. India A had New Zealand reeling at 146 for 7, but Gaze’s counterattacking century helped the Sophie-Devine-led side post a competitive total. In Colombo, both the Pakistan-Sri Lanka game and South Africa’s match against Bangladesh were washed out. Sri Lanka were 33 for 1 in 7.3 overs when play came to an end, while in the other contest, South Africa had reached 45 for 3 in nine overs before rain intervened. Bangladesh’s young pacer Marufa Akter dismissed both Laura Wolvaardt and Annerie Dercksen, while Nahida Akter bowled Marizanne Kapp – a dream start for Bangladesh.

Mehidy to lead Bangladesh in West Indies ODIs, Shakib continues to miss out

Regular captain Shanto continues to miss out due to a groin strain

Mohammad Isam02-Dec-2024Mehidy Hasan Miraz will continue to lead Bangladesh in regular captain Najmul Hossain Shanto’s absence in the ODI series against West Indies. Mehidy was named captain for the ongoing two-Test series in the Caribbean, which the hosts are leading 1-0, with Shanto missing out due to groin strain. Shakib Al Hasan, who has not played for Bangladesh since the Tests in India, continues to miss out, with BCB president Faruque Ahmed saying the senior allrounder was not “in a mental state to play for the country”.Middle-order batter Towhid Hridoy also misses out due to a groin injury which he picked up while playing football recently. Mushfiqur Rahim also misses out as he recovers from finger injury, while Mustafizur Rahman has opted out of the series due to personal reasons. Left-handed opener Zakir Hasan, meanwhile, has been dropped. Litton Das, who missed the ODIs against Afghanistan in November, returns to the side, while Parvez Hossain Emon, Afif Hossain Dhrubo, Hasan Mahmud and Tanzim Hasan Sakib have also been included.Shakib, who retired from Tests and T20Is in September, missed the ODIs against Afghanistan last month too. He was part of the Abu Dhabi T10 where he played seven matches for Bangla Tigers. He had not traveled to Dhaka to play his farewell Test, against South Africa, in October because of protests against him after being named in an FIR for an alleged murder during the political unrest in the country.BCB president Ahmed said Shakib remained in contention for selection in ODIs, adding that he needed sufficient preparation to get back into the national side.”Right now, he [Shakib] is still in the list,” Ahmed said. “We hope that the issues get solved in the way he wants. Definitely, he still possesses the capability to play for the national team. Playing for a franchise and playing for the country is not the same thing. You need preparation and also you really need to gel with the team. Since he can’t do those things, I don’t think he is in a mental state to play for the country. Because of that, we have left this thing up to him.”The players named for the ODIs will leave Dhaka on Monday to link with the rest of the players in St Kitts to play the three ODIs on December 8, 10 and 12.
