Marcus Rashford warned Barcelona could send him back to Man Utd by England legend with loanee's performances labelled 'not unbelievable'

Marcus Rashford has been sent a stern warning by England legend Chris Waddle that Barcelona could send him back to Manchester United despite his impressive statistics. The English forward, who joined Barca on loan after being exiled by United boss Ruben Amorim, has made an impressive start to life under Hansi Flick, yet Waddle insists the 27-year-old is still on trial.

  • Rashford shining at Barcelona

It’s been a rollercoaster year for Rashford. Once the poster boy of United’s revival under Erik ten Hag, he found himself out in the cold after a collapse in form. He had a fallout with Amorim and ended up being dumped into United’s so-called 'bomb squad' during pre-season. His loan to Barcelona has offered him a lifeline – in just 13 appearances, the Englishman has chalked up five goals and seven assists, including a brilliant brace in the 6-1 demolition of Olympiacos in the Champions League. The stats are promising, and the performances have been mostly solid. But Waddle believes that his current level might not be enough to convince a club that has made ruthless calls on bigger names.

    Waddle's ruthless warning to Rashford

Speaking to , who offer the best football odds, Waddle said: "This season will be crucial for Rashford. He cannot afford to be inconsistent; he must perform exceptionally in every game as if it's a cup final to secure a deal with Barcelona. This is complicated by the transfer fees involved and his current lucrative contract, which Barcelona may be unwilling to pay.

“The club might be thinking, ‘We're paying his wages, but we've saved a considerable amount on a transfer fee for a season.’ If he performs exceptionally, scoring 20 goals and consistently earning man of the match, Barcelona would have no choice but to sign him. However, his current performances are merely OK, not unbelievable. As the season progresses, it's essentially a trial period for him."

Barcelona, still recovering from years of financial turmoil, have spent the last two seasons cutting costs and offloading high earners. Rashford’s lucrative contract at United, which runs until 2028, remains one of the most substantial in the Premier League. And Waddle believes the financial side could become Rashford’s biggest stumbling block.

"A major hurdle in any potential signing could be the player's wages," he said. "Barcelona may not be willing to match Rashford’s current salary, creating a stumbling block as they typically don't pay that level of compensation. Barcelona is linked with many available players. It remains to be seen if they have another target for the left-wing or centre-forward positions, or someone else lined up for the summer. He's attempting to secure a contract from a club that is interested but not fully committed. They might send him back if they have another player in mind. Most top players will quickly move to clubs like Real Madrid or Barcelona, so Barcelona could have alternative plans.”

  • Rashford wants Barcelona stay

Despite the uncertainty, Rashford has made no secret of his affection for life in Catalonia. The forward, visibly more relaxed than during his final months in Manchester, spoke openly about his experience in a recent interview with Barcelona’s YouTube channel.

"I’m really enjoying my time in Spain," he began. "The weather is the best part. It’s a very big change. I’m learning every day, I’m really enjoying it. I hope to be here for a long time. I get along really well with Roony (Bardghji), as well as Jules (Kounde) and Frenkie (De Jong). It’s a team where we all blend together. We’re united. The team is fantastic. I just have to be in the right position. I’ll keep trying to do this. We have to keep going like this to be our best. We have a lot more to do this season."

He added: "I’m enjoying this football club and I think for anybody who loves football, Barcelona is one of the key clubs in the history of the game so to play here is an honour. I just believe that things happen when they’re supposed to happen. It’s not the first time I spoke with Barcelona about potentially coming here, but for whatever reasons it didn’t happen in the past, and now is my opportunity to make it happen. I feel like there’s no time like the present now.

"People forget this, but 23 years of my life was with Manchester United. So sometimes you just need a change. I think maybe this is the case with me and yeah, I’m enjoying everything. I don’t feel there is much change in me, I just feel it’s a new environment and culture and one I looked forward to coming here. It’s just about me adapting and fitting in as well as possible. I’m so hungry to keep improving."

Clash at the Bernabeu: Reality check for Rashford

Rashford’s newfound momentum met a stumbling block at the Bernabeu as he was unable to prevent Barcelona from slipping to a 2-1 defeat to Real Madrid, although the England international did provide the assist for his side's only goal. Next up for Rashford and Barca is a clash against Elche on November 2, where the forward will be desperate to prove that the Madrid setback was just a blip.

Fast bowlers and TV umpire headline a rollercoaster day with Test in the balance

Seam bowlers have taken 23 of 24 wickets to fall in two days as Australia edged to an 82-run second innings lead with six wickets in hand

Andrew McGlashan26-Jun-2025Quality fast bowling on a pitch offering plenty, batting frailties and a collection of third-umpiring controversies were among the headlines on another engrossing day at Kensington Oval as the ball continued to dominate with the opening Test between Australia and West Indies set to be a low-scoring scrap.By the close, Australia sat with a lead of 82 as the top-order faltered again in demanding conditions, having bowled the home side out for 190. They would be confident of defending a target of around 200 although will still take considerable work to achieve on a surface where runs have been at a premium. What the unbeaten pair of Travis Head and Beau Webster, along with next batter Alex Carey, can deliver may prove decisive.Sam Konstas, who nearly chopped on to the first ball of the innings, was dropped twice in the second over from Shamar Joseph, first by John Campbell at third slip as he charged and drove, then a low chance to Justin Greaves at second. On the dressing room balcony, West Indies coach Daren Sammy couldn’t contain his frustrations. It took the tally of chances off Shamar Joseph to five in the game.Related

In the end, he didn’t need the fielders’ help to end Konstas’ painful 38-ball innings as, like in the first innings, he angled one back to expose a technical flaw as Konstas chopped into his stumps for 5. By then, Alzarri Joseph had already removed Usman Khawaja to a borderline lbw from round the wicket and at 34 for 2 the innings needed stabilising. For 10 overs, Cameron Green and Josh Inglis managed that although the former required the DRS to save him when he was given lbw on 13 only for replays to show the ball carrying over the stumps. One run later, Green was at the centre of the day’s latest significant third-umpire moment when Adrian Holdstock ruled there was an edge to what would have been a three-reds decision against Greaves, but it became something of a moot point in the same over when Green slashed to slip.Inglis’ stay had ended a few minutes earlier when he shouldered arms to Jayden Seales and lost his off stump, the second batter to fall in that manner for the day after Brandon King. Head and Webster ensured against further damage with Webster being especially proactive. But Shamar Joseph remained a constant threat, regularly keeping his speeds over 140kph, and struck Head a blow on the hand shortly before stumps.Pat Cummins trapped Roston Chase lbw on 40•Randy Brooks/AFP/Getty ImagesWest Indies had taken a slender first-innings lead of 10 having potentially been placed for something a little better at 139 for 5. Australia’s bowlers shared the success with Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood especially impressive, but the main talking points of the innings came with the wickets of captain Roston Chase and top-scorer Shai Hope whose dismissals were both upheld by Holdstock.Chase was given lbw to Cummins and reviewed straightaway, indicating he thought he had hit the ball, but the on-field decision was upheld amid a flurry of uncertain marks on Ultra Edge. Hope was then brilliantly caught, one-handed, by Carey (who had earlier dropped a much more regulation catch) and Holdstock determined the ball was safely in his glove despite being very close to the ground.West Indies had resumed on 57 for 4 and, to begin a theme for the day, the third umpire was in action early on as Cummins called the DRS when Australia thought Chase had been trapped pad first by Hazlewood. Initial replays suggested that may have been the case, and the Australians became animated, but it was ruled to be bat first. In the second over of the day, Chase was given a life on 4 when Konstas couldn’t get his hands to a sharp inside edge at short leg while Carey gave King a reprieve on 26 when he couldn’t hold an edge that was climbing on him. Soon, though, Hazlewood got the reward he deserved when King misjudged a leave to a delivery that was always angling back and lost his off stump. However, that proved Australia’s only success of the morning as Chase and Hope forged a 67-run stand. Hope, on his return to Test cricket after a three-and-a-half-year absence, unfurled a couple of pristine drives early on, particularly one straight back past Mitchell Starc.Chase, meanwhile, took the introduction of Nathan Lyon as an opportunity to attack. He edged wide of slip off the back foot. A couple of overs later he deposited him twice down the ground, the second occasion for six over long-off.Shortly after lunch Cummins, as he so often does, provided the breakthrough when he trapped Chase lbw. Webster nipped in to remove Greaves then, crucially, Hope when Carey’s brilliant one-handed catch to his left to gather an inside edge was ruled to be clean. Hope had been happy to leave the field while the umpire review was taking place and was back in the dressing by the time the confirmation arrived although Sammy appeared far from convinced.Alzarri Joseph’s forceful 23 turned a potential deficit into a small lead, taking West Indies past Australia’s total with a thumping straight six. And so it was left virtually all-square; a few hours later it would have been a brave person to call how this match will end.

USMNT’s Timothy Weah assists Mason Greenwood for Marseille opener, but team falls 2-1 to Lens

U.S. international Timothy Weah set up Mason Greenwood to give Olympique de Marseille an early lead against RC Lens, but OM eventually fell 2-1. The American winger’s first-half assist highlighted another strong showing in his growing role with the club. His club, however, fall to third following the result.

AFPWeah's playmaking shines early

The breakthrough came in the 17th minute when Weah combined in transition, driving into the final third before threading a decisive pass that Greenwood converted to open the scoring.

Despite Weah’s contribution, Lens hit back quickly as Odsonne Edouard equalized from the penalty spot just six minutes later. They continued to press after the break and found a winner through a Benjamin Pavard own goal eight minutes into the second half. Marseille dominated possession late on but struggled to create clear chances, ultimately falling short.

An up and down season for Weah

Weah’s assist against Lens arrives after an eventful opening months at Marseille. The American has made 11 appearances for the Ligue 1 side but has only contributed to two goals so far, including his assist against Lens and his stunner against Real Madrid.

Fisher, Clark share six to put Surrey on top in Worcester

Surrey’s bowlers dominated day one of the Rothesay County Championship clash against Worcestershire, as Matt Fisher’s 3 for 34 helped bundle the hosts out for 209.A middle-order collapse saw the bottom-side in Division One slip to 87 for 5, after both Jake Libby and Henry Nicholls made starts at Visit Worcestershire New Road. Jordan Clark impressed with three wickets of his own, as Matthew Waite dug in for a resilient 68 in an otherwise underwhelming batting display from the hosts.Dom Sibley and Ryan Patel batted through the remaining 15 overs of the day, as Surrey closed the day 47 for 0 and took charge of the contest. The visitors returned to four-day action in a hurry, as Fisher trapped Gareth Roderick lbw in the 10th over of the morning – the first of his three wickets on the day in an eye-catching bowling display.Stand-in Worcestershire captain Libby came together with Nicholls to add 47 for the second wicket, before Surrey struck twice in five balls to leave the home side 70 for 3 at lunch. Worcestershire’s batting unit continued to struggle early in the afternoon session, when Fisher removed Nicholls for 31, before the impressive Clark pinned Hose lbw, as Surrey took control of proceedings.Ethan Brookes and Waite joined forces, with their side in some peril at 87 for 5, but raised the 100 in the 43rd over of the day, shortly before Brookes was given a reprieve when he was dropped at gully still in single figures. The pair accumulated 31 for the sixth wicket, when former Worcestershire man Nathan Smith traded wickets with Mitchell Santner, as Surrey’s bowlers continued to press on. Signing a one-game extension to enable his participation in this fixture, Santner showed all his class, returning figures of 1 for 38 from 15 overs as he bowled with expert control throughout.Waite brought up a defiant fifty just after tea, facing 77 balls on the way to reaching his third half-century of the season, scoring six boundaries in his standalone innings.Fisher returned to remove Ben Allison cheaply, before Fateh Singh joined Waite, as the pair came together to add a valuable 45 for the ninth wicket, before Waite held out to Dan Lawrence at long-on.After wrapping up the Worcestershire innings for 209, Surrey openers Sibley and Patel made their way to the middle with 15 overs remaining in the day. Despite catching a nasty blow on the arm from a rising Jacob Duffy short ball late on, Patel batted with great temperament, as he and Sibley saw their side through to stumps unscathed, trailing by 162 runs with all ten wickets in hand heading into the second morning.

He's crucial to Frank: Spurs star could steal the #10 shirt from Maddison

Tottenham Hotspur’s success in the Europa League last season is evidence that their recruitment strategy over recent years has been a success on the pitch.

The Lilywhites have split their hunt in the transfer market, allowing for an excellent mix of youth talents with huge ceilings and big-money stars who can make an immediate impact.

Thomas Frank has continued that trend over his first summer transfer window at the helm, spending over £100m on a mixture of stars who can contribute to the club in the immediate and long term.

Joao Palhinha joined the side on a season-long loan from German giants Bayern Munich, hopefully making an immediate impact in North London given his experience at the top level.

Xavi Simons is arguably one of the most high-profile additions, costing a whopping £52m from RB Leipzig – but has plenty of time to thrive under Frank, given his tender age of just 22 years.

However, it remains unclear how much of a role one player will have to play under the manager’s guidance, given his constant setbacks over the last couple of months.

James Maddison’s horrid injury luck at Spurs

James Maddison was seen as a superb addition back in the summer of 2023, costing a fee in the region of £40m from Leicester City after their relegation from the Premier League.

The Englishman made an immediate impact in North London, becoming the first player in the club’s history to register two assists on his debut for the Lilywhites.

However, whilst he’s registered 16 goals and 19 assists for the club, injuries have massively halted his progress at the club – subsequently casting doubt over his long-term future under Frank.

He had already missed 24 games and 146 days’ worth of action before Frank’s appointment, but he is once again set for a prolonged period on the sideline with his latest setback.

The 28-year-old suffered an ACL tear in the pre-season clash with Newcastle United, with such an injury set to rule the midfielder out for the majority of Frank’s maiden campaign at the helm.

He currently has two years left on contract after the 2025/26 campaign, but given his constant setbacks, the club may look to offload the Englishman to prevent losing him for nothing.

Such a decision could free up the number ten shirt in North London, with one player already on the books more than deserving of the chance to wear the iconic shirt.

The Spurs player who could steal the #10 from Maddison

Despite losing the likes of Heung-min Son and Harry Kane over recent years, Spurs still have a huge array of attacking talent on the books under Frank’s guidance.

His side have already scored 11 times in the Premier League during their first six outings, averaging just shy of two goals per game – with Richarlison their top scorer on three.

There’s no denying that the side are a force to be reckoned with in attacking areas, with not many sides able to possess the quality Frank’s men do in the final third.

The midfield department is also stacked in the manager’s favour, with Lucas Bergvall just one of the players who’s made the position his own within the 4-3-3 system.

Not many fans would’ve predicted how quickly he’s made himself a first-team regular in the side, especially after joining for just £8.5m from Swedish side Djurgarden just last summer.

He was just 18 upon his transfer, but it has not stopped him from thriving in North London, racking up 54 appearances across all competitions since his transfer.

Bergvall, who’s been labelled “phenomenal” by one analyst, has arguably been one of the Lilywhites’ star performers in the early days of the 2025/26 campaign – starting four of the six league outings under the Dane.

Despite his midfield role, he’s also managed to notch a goal and assist in England’s top-flight, leading by example in North London despite his tender age.

At just 19 years of age, he has bags of time to develop further and transition into an elite-level talent and lead the club to added European and domestic success.

He has all the tools to thrive in England for many years, subsequently deserving of the number ten shirt in the near future to help reflect his importance to the football club.

It may be a harsh decision to cut ties with Maddison, given his success on the field, but ultimately, his injuries are far too frequent – subsequently making him an unreliable figure.

Bergvall has demonstrated he’s capable of starring ahead of the Englishman in recent months, with the Swede deserving of the opportunity to wear the prestigious number ten shirt.

MLB Best Bets: Plus-Money Player Props to Target for Cardinals vs. Pirates (Back Paul Skenes and Rowdy Tellez)

The St. Louis Cardinals (31-33) host the PIttsburgh Pirates (31-34) tonight at Busch Stadium with rookie sensation Paul Skenes on the mound for the Pirates.

Here are two player props to target in plus-money tonight.

MLB Best Bets TodayPaul Skenes over 7.5 strikeouts (+110) at DraftKings

If you are an MLB fan, you are obligated to always take the over on Paul Skenes K props.

I kid. Sort of.

No pitcher’s debut season has been this hyped since Stephen Strasburg in 2010, and so far Skenes has (mostly) lived up to the hype.

Skenes struck out eight Dodgers in his most recent outing, also securing the win for the Bucs.  If Skenes can K eight Dodgers, I am happy to grab plus-money for him to tally eight punch-outs vs. the St. Louis Cardinals.

The Cardinals have a 23.7% K-rate vs. righties this season — the 10th highest rate in MLB.

Skenes has exceeded this prop in three of five games started this year and he’s striking batters out at a rate of 12.67 per nine innings. If he makes it through six innings, he easily exceeds this mark.

Rowdy Tellez over 1.5 Hits +Runs + RBI (+105) at DraftKings

I know, I know. Tellez has been awful this year, but hear me out.

Not only does Tellez tear the cover off the ball (his max exit velocity in the top 2% of MLB), he’s been heating up lately.

In June, Tellez is hitting .529 with seven RBI and a 1.461 OPS. He has hits in six of his last seven games, and he has exceeded this prop in five of those seven.

Not only that, but Tellez has good career stats vs. Miles Mikolas.

In 18 career at-bats vs. Mikolas, Tellez is batting .333 and has a 1.091 OPS. Take advantage of the value for Tellez tonight.

Dyche upgrade: Ibrox officials eyeing "ultra-positive" manager for Rangers

Glasgow Rangers have just under two weeks to find a new manager to lead the Ibrox giants out in their next Scottish Premiership match after the international break.

The powers that be at Ibrox made the decision to part ways with Russell Martin on Sunday night, after a fifth draw in seven league games, and it was a decision that is hard to argue against.

Five wins in 17 matches in charge of the club in all competitions was not a record that the board could stand behind and justify to provide the head coach with more time, which is why they are now in a position where they need to replace Martin.

Rangers identify Championship manager as a target

It will be interesting to see who the likes of Patrick Stewart and Kevin Thelwell settle on, as they are reportedly keen on bringing in an English manager.

Manager Focus

Who are the greatest coaches in the land? Football FanCast’s Manager Focus series aims to reveal all.

According to the Scottish Daily Express, Middlesbrough boss Rob Edwards has emerged as a contender for the job, as Rangers are considering a move for the English coach.

The former Luton and Watford tactician only joined Boro in the summer, but the Light Blues are looking at him as a potential option to replace Martin.

Scottish Daily Express does not reveal how serious their interest is in the Championship gaffer, though, and other managers have been linked with the job.

Sean Dyche, who has been out of work since being sacked by Everton in January, is reportedly interested in joining Rangers, but Edwards would be an even better appointment.

Why Rob Edwards would be better than Sean Dyche for Rangers

One potential reason not to appoint Dyche is that he has not managed a team that has been expected to compete at the top end of a league table since the 2015/16 campaign with Burnley in the Championship.

He has finished 10th or lower in eight of his last nine seasons as a manager, with seventh being the highest finish in those nine years, per Transfermarkt, which means that it may be difficult to adjust to the expectations at Ibrox.

Edwards, however, won the League Two title with Forest Green Rovers in the 2021/22 campaign, won the play-offs in the Championship with Luton Town in the 2022/23 season, and is currently second in the Championship with Middlesbrough.

The English tactician, who has played a 3-4-3 system with Boro (Transfermarkt), has won five and lost one of his first nine league matches in charge of his current club, which is in stark contrast to Martin’s dismal form for Rangers in the Premiership.

As you can see in the table above, his Middlesbrough side have been one of the standout teams, if not the standout team, from a defensive perspective in the Championship this season.

Edwards, who journalist Mark Ogden described as an “ultra-positive” manager, has shown that he can coach a solid defensive unit as part of a team that is competing at the top of the table, whilst his coaching history shows that he can win titles and improve teams, like Forest Green Rovers and Luton.

This suggests that he would be the perfect fit for what Rangers currently need after the 24 goals conceded in 17 matches under Martin, because of his ability to coach an impressive defence.

He would be an even better appointment than Dyche, as well, because he has a recent track record of competing for titles or promotion, including the current season, whilst the former Burnley boss has been a perennial survival specialist for the past decade.

'I would have loved to play!' – Vincent Kompany wished he was back on the field as 10-man Bayern Munich survived second-half onslaught against PSG

Vincent Kompany admitted he “would have loved to have played” in the second-half as Bayern Munich battled to a 2-1 Champions League win over Paris Saint-Germain. The Bavarians extended their winning streak to 16 matches despite Luis Diaz’s red card, with the Belgian praising his side’s defensive resilience in one of their toughest tests of the season.

Bayern grind out tense win in Paris

Bayern continued their incredible unbeaten run under Kompany, defeating PSG 2-1 at the Parc des Princes to extend their winning streak to 16 games in all competitions. The reigning Bundesliga champions dominated the first half with two goals from Diaz, who struck twice inside 32 minutes to stun the French hosts. However, the Colombian’s red card for a reckless tackle on Achraf Hakimi just before half-time shifted momentum dramatically.

The European champions pulled one back through substitute Joao Neves, but Die Roten's 10 men held firm through a relentless second-half siege. The victory not only strengthened Bayern’s position atop their Champions League group but also underlined their defensive resolve, something Kompany said reminded him of his own playing days.

AdvertisementGetty Images Sport'I would have loved to play in that second half' – Kompany

After the match, Bayern boss Kompany reflected on the intensity of the contest and the pride he took in his team’s defensive character even joking that the atmosphere made him wish he could pull on his boots again.

“I would have loved to have played in the second half,” Kompany told . “Defending everything away and always putting pressure on the man. Every situation is dangerous, but as a defender, you’re naturally trained for these moments.”

The Belgian praised his side’s mentality under pressure, adding that the performance embodied the spirit he wants Bayern to represent: hard work, discipline, and composure even when the odds are stacked against them.

Kimmich and Tah hail Bayern’s ‘intensity and fight’

Midfielder Joshua Kimmich described the victory as one of the most exhausting yet rewarding nights of his career. Speaking to , the German admitted he was taken aback by the sheer tempo of the encounter.

“I have to say, that was one of the most intense halves of my career,” Kimmich said. “After 25 minutes, I looked up and thought to myself, ‘I’m going to collapse.’ It was really intense from both teams, this man-to-man pressing, constant movement, and incredible pace.”

Kimmich also lauded his team's physical edge: “We really hurt them. We were very aggressive, had a lot of very good chances, and were very physical. Paris moved around a lot in possession, their players rotated a lot, and they made frequent runs in behind. You always had to keep up. That was quite a challenge. It only got more intense in the second half."

Center-back Jonathan Tah echoed those sentiments, praising the collective effort that saw Bayern survive with 10 men: “The first half was brilliant from us. The way we approached the game, the intensity, and the number of chances we created,” he told . “The second half was simply about suffering and defending together. It’s not typical for us to have to defend extremely deep, but we showed we can do it when we have to.”

Their comments summed up a Bayern side that blended attacking dominance with a defender’s mentality – a reflection of Kompany’s growing imprint on the squad.

With four wins from four in the Champions League, Bayern’s attention now turns to another major test – a November 26 trip to Arsenal, where both clubs will put their perfect group-stage records on the line in a clash for top spot.

Reflecting on the upcoming encounter, Kimmich said: “Against Arsenal we can see once again where we stand, but today, especially the first half, was outstanding from us.”

Before that European showdown, The Bavarians return to Bundesliga action against Union Berlin, looking to enter the international break unbeaten. For Kompany, the message remains simple: keep momentum, keep control, and keep believing – whether defending deep or dictating play, Bayern look every bit the complete package under him.
