Guzan confirmed he will retire after the 2025 MLS season, closing a career spanning two decades. His announcement marks the end of a significant era for both Atlanta United and the USMNT, where Guzan was a steady presence in goal and a leader on and off the field. The American international’s statement, on social media, confirmed the news and thanked

“21 years is a long time. I’m just a kid from Chicago who instantly knew this game was for me,” Guzan posted on his social media. “Today, as I prepare to hang up my gloves, I know this journey was never just about me. THANK YOU – TO EVERYONE.”

Tottenham plan "irresistible" offer for £68m midfielder amid Thomas Frank belief

Tottenham boss Thomas Frank has played a key role in helping to facilitate some Spurs transfer deals since his arrival in N17, with the Dane now believed to be a huge admirer of one player across the continent.

Thomas Frank "key" to Tottenham agreeing Xavi Simons deal

The Lilywhites’ statement summer signing was their £52 million move for playmaker Xavi Simons.

Tottenham hijacked Chelsea’s once-advanced move to sign the Dutchman on a potential seven-year contract which could be worth a grand total of £125 million (Paul O’Keefe) – putting their spectacularly failed deals for Eberechi Eze and Morgan Gibbs-White behind them.

Super agent Ali Barat, speaking to RMC Sport this week, revealed that Frank played a very major role in convincing the 22-year-old to join Tottenham over their London rivals.

Speaking after Tottenham’s surprise 2-0 win away to Man City, fellow summer signing Joao Palhinha, who’s enjoyed an impressive start to life back in London overall, also revealed that Frank “pushed” for him to make a Premier League return.

Now, according to reports from Spain, Frank has his eyes on yet another player.

Tottenham plan Morten Hjulmand bid amid Thomas Frank belief

As per one Spanish media source, that man is Sporting CP star Morten Hjulmand.

Morten Hjulmand for Sporting Lisbon

The Denmark international is currently in fine form for Rui Borges’ side, starting all five of their Primeira Liga matches so far this season and averaging a very impressive 92.9 per cent passing accuracy (WhoScored).

After becoming a star for the current Portuguese champions since his move there over two years ago, in a deal worth an initial £15.5 million, Hjulmand’s value has skyrocketed.

His contract includes a £68 million release clause, but Tottenham are planning to test the water with a £52 million bid for Hjulmand.

Frank apparently believes he could be a “key” signing for the club, and with Yves Bissouma very likely to leave in 2026, Hjulmand could come as the Mali international’s perfect replacement.

Sporting realise that the 26-year-old could be tempted by Spurs’ “irresistible” offer of an opportunity to play English football, and there is apparent concern that this season could be the midfielder’s last in Portugal.

Birmingham can forget about Mitrovic with move for “perfect” £13m star

Birmingham City have found their return to Championship life to be comfortable so far.

Unlike fellow promoted new side Wrexham, who have already been made well aware of the jump-up in quality, Chris Davies’ Blues look ready for the challenge ahead of the 46-game marathon, having recently fought back dramatically to win 2-1 at Blackburn Rovers.

Having also just been acknowledged at the PFA Awards with seven members of the Birmingham first team squad in League One Team of the Year, everything appears to be rosy currently at St. Andrew’s.

That’s the case even after rumours linking the Blues to an audacious move for Aleksandar Mitrovic were rubbished, with the temporary thought of Mitrovic leading the line for another Championship side a terrifying prospect.

Birmingham's rumoured interest in Mitrovic

There may well have been some weight behind Birmingham plotting a stunning move for the ex-Fulham attacker, considering they have forked out a notable £10m on Kyogo Furuhashi’s services in recent times.

However, landing the Serbian would have undoubtedly been the signing of the summer from the Blues’ perspective – away from the former Celtic man’s arrival on to the scene – when you assess his unbelievable goalscoring exploits in the EFL’s elite division previously.

In total, Mitrovic has managed to bag an insane 83 strikes from just 126 career appearances in the competitive league, with 43 of those coming during just one Championship season.

Of course, it wasn’t just Birmingham taking a look at Mitrovic in isolation, unfortunately, with Leeds United and Sunderland also named as other parties keen on snapping up the imposing centre-forward.

The Al-Hilal attacker wouldn’t be joining the Blues camp on a cheap deal, either, with reports suggesting that he had a £26m price-tag above his head, before you even factor in his wild £414k-per-week salary in the Saudi Pro League, as per Capology.

Therefore, it’s safe to assume – despite Journalist Alex Crook hinting on talkSPORT (17:55, 17th August) that it could have been a possibility – that Mitrovic leaving the luxuries of the Middle East behind for St. Andrew’s was always going to be far-fetched to pull off.

Transfer Focus

Mega money deals, controversial moves and big-name flops. This is the home of transfer news and opinion across Football FanCast.

However, going back in for this former target does seem more realistic and a perfect way to get over this ambitious switch not happening.

Birmingham can forget Mitrovic by signing £13m star

For half of Mitrovic’s extortionate valuation, Birmingham could set their sights on this alternative figure up top instead, with Che Adams – who is worth £13m according to Football Transfers – tipped for a return to St Andrew’s.

As was reported earlier this month, the Championship newcomers still hold some interest in bringing their former striker back to the West Midlands, having been in the race for his signature earlier in the transfer window.

While he might not boast a 43-goal season at the unforgiving level, the Scotsman certainly knows how to find the back of the net with some venom in the EFL’s top league to be seen as an adequate move to go after, instead of landing a more expensive Mitrovic.

Indeed, Adams has managed to register a healthy 49 Championship strikes across his well-travelled career to date, with his last season at the punishing level seeing him bag a career-best 17 goals as his then employers Southampton soared up to the Premier League.

This will surely pique Birmingham’s interest as they try to make the best possible moves to ensure back-to-back promotions occur, with the 29-year-old proving himself to be a reliable goal machine wherever he’s been across his playing days so far. Indeed, ex-Torino manager Paolo Vanoli hailed him as “perfect” for the Serie A side’s system when powering home ten strikes from 39 clashes in Italy.

Rather than Mitrovic ditching the Saudi Pro League for a chance back in England, therefore, it could soon be Adams tempted by a second chance at glory with his ex-side.

In an ideal world, Birmingham might well have shown more purpose as they attempted to bring Mitrovic into the building on a statement deal.

But, any potential lost move for the ex-Championship menace irking Birmingham will be swept under the carpet if Adams joins Davies’ camp last minute, especially if he powers home more crucial second-tier strikes to add another promotion up to the Premier League on his resume.

Leeds had deal agreed to sign "important" ace who once silenced Elland Road

After Daniel Farke publicly requested attacking arrivals more than once, Leeds United got to work on deadline day and even had a deal agreed to sign an impressive winger at one stage.

Although some will be disappointed that certain deals didn’t get over the line, it was still a busy summer at Elland Road. The 49ers got off to a rapid start, welcoming the likes of Jaka Bijol and then Newcastle United’s Sean Longstaff, but soon found it more difficult when attempting to sign the attacking reinforcements that Farke requested.

In the end, the Whites were forced to settle for the 10 signings that they had completed and the £101m that the 49ers splashed out to welcome those additions. But it wasn’t for the want of trying.

Those at Elland Road attempted to solve their attacking problems with Igor Paixao early in the window before he joined Marseille. It was then a familiar story when chasing Facundo Buonanotte, who joined Premier League rivals Chelsea.

Both players would have made a difference to the current frontline and there’s no doubt that all involved at the club will be frustrated to have missed their targets.

Leeds launched late bid to sign "standout" star who was desperate to move

Daniel Farke wanted an attacking option.

ByTom Cunningham Sep 2, 2025

None more so, however, than Farke, who said before the season got underway: “We are not naive. We know that even in comparison to our Championship offence you could say that we are not much improved.”

Whether Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Noah Okafor have changed the German’s stance remains to be seen, but what certainly would have helped is if Leeds managed to get the late target that they were gunning for on deadline day.

Leeds had late deal agreed for Wilson

In one final blow on deadline day, Leeds had a deal agreed to sign Harry Wilson before Fulham pulled the plug, according to transfer reporter Ben Jacobs.

The Whites reportedly met their asking price before Fulham changed their stance and, by deadline day, wanted to re-negotiate. Even after Leeds’ improved offer that led to an agreement and subsequent deal sheet, however, the West London club called the transfer off. It was one last act to sum up a summer full of frustration for the 49ers.

It remains to be seen if the deal is revisited in January, but it would certainly be interesting to see him in a Leeds shirt. It wasn’t so long ago that the Welshman was silencing Elland Road with a goal and an assist to help Derby County on their way to play-off victory.

Ultimately, Marco Silva didn’t want to lose his man and a player that he’s been full of praise of in the past. The former Everton boss told reporters last season: “He’s an important player and a very good player for us. Of course the feeling for him against Brentford is fantastic and he’s probably thinking right now, ‘why don’t I play against Brentford every week?’.”

Rohit's Ranji return lasts 19 balls as he falls for 3 against J&K

Rohit is now averaging 10.43 across 16 innings in first-class cricket in the 2024-25 season

S Sudarshanan23-Jan-2025Rohit Sharma’s return to the Ranji Trophy was a short-lived one – he lasted 19 balls and scored just three in Mumbai’s Group A fixture against Jammu and Kashmir at the Sharad Pawar Academy in BKC in Mumbai.Rohit, India’s Test and ODI captain who has been going through a terrible run of form, was the focus of a lot of attention in the lead-up to the game as soon as he confirmed his presence in the game with a nod and “I will” at the Champions Trophy squad announcement press conference last week. With a white floppy hat and sunglasses on, Rohit was relaxed before the game, joking with his team-mates as they warmed up with some head volleyball. But he wore a determined look as he walked out to open with his regular India opening partner in Tests, Yashasvi Jaiswal, after Mumbai’s captain Ajinkya Rahane opted to bat. To accommodate Rohit and Jaiswal at the top, Mumbai had to leave out Ayush Mhatre, who, in his debut season, has been one of Mumbai’s star performers: 408 runs from nine innings at an average of 45.33 with two centuries. It was a cool winter morning in Mumbai, a relief after a week that saw temperatures touch the mid-30s. Rohit on mandatory domestic cricket: 'You hardly have time'

Auqib Nabi conceded a four early in the opening over but then tightened his lines; Rohit got off the mark with a single through the on side. But he was given a proper work over by Umar Nazir Mir, who bowled two successive maidens to him. Nazir maintained a consistent line outside off and varied his lengths a touch, not allowing Rohit to get going.Rohit managed to drive a Nabi delivery through the covers for a couple in the next over but once again was kept quiet by Nazir, who got his reward on his 17th ball. He bowled a length delivery on the fifth stump, with a hint of movement away from the right-hand batter. Rohit looked to play his trademark pick-up shot over midwicket but only managed to get a leading edge to the off side. Paras Dogra ran a few yards to his left from mid-off to extra cover, called loud and clear, and pouched it to end Rohit’s stay in the middle. The short stay in the middle meant that Rohit’s lean run in red-ball cricket continued. Across five home Tests against Bangladesh and New Zealand at home last year, he had just one half-century to show – against New Zealand in Bengaluru – with four single-digit scores across ten innings. He also had just one double-digit score in five innings in Australia, where he played in three of the five Test matches. He finished the 2024-25 Test season with a batting average of 10.93.Rohit’s first-class batting average of 10.43 across 16 innings in the 2024-25 season is the second-lowest for any batter since 2006 (for a minimum of 15 innings while batting in the top six). England’s Haseeb Hameed averaged 9.44 across 18 innings in the 2018 season. Before Rohit, Jaiswal fell. Nabi managed to get his line right against the left-hand batter, getting a couple of balls to move away. One of those narrowly missed the outside edge of Jaiswal’s bat – a muted appeal was given not out. On the next ball – the third ball of the third over – Nabi got a length ball to jag back viciously; Jaiswal was caught off-guard, and was beaten on the inside edge and hit on the back leg right in front of middle and leg. He was quite deep in the crease and the umpire took little time in raising the finger. Jaiswal, who was one of India’s most successful batters at the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, dragged himself off with 4 against his name. After the close of play Nazir, who took 4 for 41, said Rohit’s wicket was a “prized” one. “A good ball is a good ball against any player, you don’t look at the stature of the player. But Rohit Sharma’s wicket is a big one, I am happy. When you dismiss an international player, it is always a prized wicket. There was some help from the surface, I tried to bowl in right areas. Rohit Sharma is a big name and his wicket was important for us and for me, personally, as well.”Nazir was part of J&K’s line-up when they defeated Mumbai at the Wankhede Stadium in 2014. He had picked up four wickets in the second innings, which was why he was unfazed by having to bowl at such high-profile batters.”I slept off at 10pm last night and woke up around 7am and was quite relaxed,” Nazir said. “I tried to bowl fuller lengths because of the bounce on the surface. [When Rohit was dismissed] the first thought in my mind… I did not celebrate because I am a big fan of Rohit Sharma. If we manage to win this game, it would be a proud moment for me, and the team, because India’s captain is playing in the opposition.”

'New conditions, new team' – Latham wants NZ to switch focus to England challenge

It may be a different XI in different conditions, but Tom Latham has challenged his side to bring the same intensity and cunning against England that secured a remarkable 3-0 win in India.A lush green Hagley Oval pitch for Thursday’s first Test will be on the other end of the spectrum to the Wankhede strip that saw all but four of the 40 wickets taken fall to spin. The Black Caps used it to round off their success in style. The task will be very different back in familiar surroundings this week.Barely four weeks on, 11-wicket hero Ajaz Patel and leg spinner Ish Sodhi have been parked for the returning Tim Southee and debutant seamer Nathan Smith, as expected. Even the “dropping” of player of the series Will Young is understandable with Kane Williamson fully recovered from the groin injury that forced him to miss the tour. Head coach Gary Stead broke the news to Young before Latham followed up.Related

  • Nathan Smith ready to step up after taking scenic route to Tests

  • New Zealand and England to compete for Crowe-Thorpe Trophy

That historic series was Latham’s first as full-time captain, and the first of these three matches against England has the whiff of a hero’s welcome for the Christchurch native (though he has skippered at his home ground three times as a stand-in).But while Latham does not want the team to rest on their laurels after such a high, he accepts a balance needs to be struck between moving on and channelling the confidence that comes with any series win in India, let alone a clean sweep.”It was an amazing couple of weeks, what we were able to do over in India,” Latham said on Wednesday. “Coming here, as cliche as it might sound, that is in the past. It’s all about coming here and focussing on what challenge lies ahead.”New conditions, new team – for us, it’s about trying to take as much confidence as we can from that series. The way we played, the approach we tried to take into that series in conditions that were tough. Knowing that we can do it all around the world is the confidence we need to take into here. And obviously, nice coming home to familiar conditions.”That was the most pleasing thing – the way we went about things over there, in conditions that were tough. We speak about it all the time – adapting to conditions and trying to adapt as quick as we can. It’s important we come here and try and do the same as quick as possible.”Even Ben Stokes, not usually one to laud opponents with lavish praise ahead of a series had to acknowledge the feat of New Zealand’s achievement. No doubt his respect was amplified by the fact England had tried and failed to conquer India at the start of the year, succumbing to a chastening 4-1 defeat.”I think even though we’re coming up against them in a series you’ve got to hold your hands up and give a huge amount of credit to New Zealand for going to India and winning all three games in the way they did,” said the England captain.”I think it’s massive for world cricket. India have been such a force in their home conditions and New Zealand have gone over there and won 3-0, not only is it great for NZ cricket but it was a huge thing for cricket in general that a touring team has been able to go and get one over on India because I can’t remember a time a team was able to do that.””We don’t need any more motivation than to walk out representing our country but I think you’ve got to appreciate what New Zealand were able to do in India. A lot of teams around the world have gone there and wished they could have done the same thing but it’s a lot easier said than done. I’ve got huge admiration for what Tom and his team were able to do out in India.”Latham also backed Smith to make a strong impression on debut. The bowling allrounder won the race for the final seamer spot over Jacob Duffy. Smith has impressed domestically over the last couple of years and was rewarded with an NZC contract in September before making his international debut against Sri Lanka earlier this month.England will know a bit about him after he took 27 County Championship wickets for Worcestershire, while also scoring three half-centuries. It was a stint that attracted a few more admirers, including Division One champions Surrey.”He’s someone that can move the ball both ways in the air, and hit the wicket reasonably hard,” Latham said. “He balances our bowling attack quite nicely with the other three guys. And he can bat a little bit – he’s a bit of a bowling allrounder, which certainly helps the balance of our side.”He’s someone that has produced results over a period of time for Wellington – he’s been domestic player of the year for a couple of seasons in a row. It’s great to have someone like that that’s earned his spot and certainly deserves to be in this XI. We’re looking forward to getting in behind him tomorrow.”

Arsenal eye £55m deal for player who's held talks with Arteta and Berta

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is widely believed to be targeting Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze after sealing a deal for Viktor Gyokeres, but sporting director Andrea Berta has now been handed an imminent deadline in pursuit of the playmaker.

Despite already signing winger Noni Madueke from Chelsea, whilst boating the likes of Martin Odegaard and Ethan Nwaneri for the number 10 role, Arsenal have shortlisted Eze as a top target for the last month of the summer window.

Those within Arsenal view Eze as a different style of attacking midfielder to Odegaard, and one who can deliver goals from that position, whereas their club captain excels more at making goals for others (Sky Sports).

A move for the 27-year-old, who bagged an excellent 14 goals and 11 assists in all competitions last season, was always seen as a separate signing to Madueke, but is still versatile enough to provide cover on the wings if need be.

In a real boost for Berta, multiple reports have claimed that Eze is very keen on joining Arsenal before deadline day on September 1, so personal terms are unlikely to be an issue.

As well as this, the Gunners remain in constant contact with Eze’s camp, as they have been for a while (Fabrizio Romano), so it appears that Arsenal do still have the financial scope to bring him in after spending north of £200 million already this window.

However, it is important to note that Berta and co are keen to secure some outgoings first.

Eze’s contract includes a release clause worth an initial £60 million, plus bonuses which would take it to £68 million, but intriguing updates in the last few days have revealed that it actually expires on Friday.

Arsenal make Eberechi Eze decision after Mikel Arteta and Andrea Berta talks

Specifically, the clause will no longer be valid by 23:59pm on Friday evening, so Arsenal have a matter of hours to decide whether they want to trigger it or not.

According to talkSPORT and journalist Ben Jacobs, they’ve already made their call, with Arsenal informing Palace they have no plans to activate Eze’s £60m buyout before the weekend.

This means that Arsenal will have to enter a negotiation, and Oliver Glasner’s side are free to demand as much as they please for their £100,000-per-week star, who averaged more shots at goal, key passes and successful take-ons per 90 than any other Palace player in the Premier League (WhoScored).

Jacobs also reports that Eze has spoken directly to both Arteta and Berta about joining Arsenal, and the former QPR star is “sold” on a move to the Emirates, but they may now have to sell a player first.

Senegal's Habib Diarra in action against England's Eberechi Eze.

In terms of price, their plan was always to go beneath the clause anyway, so nothing has changed much in the eyes of Arsenal’s recruitment team.

They apparently value Eze at below £60m, with Arsenal hoping to pay a similar fee to that of Anthony Elanga’s £55 million transfer to Newcastle.

Nepal head coach Monty Desai: 'We are building our story, not spoiling anyone else's party'

Nepal want to leave a mark on T20 World Cup 2024 in their last group game against Bangladesh, according to head coach Monty Desai. Although Nepal’s one-run defeat against South Africa was heartbreaking, they will try to “put on a show” against Bangladesh, who are in a good position to grab a Super Eight spot.Netherlands have an outside chance but their net run rate is too low. Nepal, with just one point from three games, are already out of the race.”We are building our story, so I am not thinking about spoiling anyone else’s party,” Desai said. “The message in the dressing room was that we still want to live in a world of imagination, where we want to believe that we crossed the line [on Friday]. We want to think that we are on three points, looking forward to Bangladesh and playing to qualify for Super Eight. If you can bring that mentality and fight till the end, cross the line, at least we will go back with a proud moment of winning, and then probably think about the ifs and buts of other games. But yes, we want to put up a show.”Related

Against South Africa, Kushal Bhurtel and Dipendra Singh Airee shared seven wickets, and later Aasif Sheikh scored 42. Sandeep Lamichhane went wicketless in his first match back in Nepal colours, but he was economical. Despite all that, a run-out on the final ball cost them the game. Desai said the Nepal players had to pick themselves up from the defeat.”This is exactly where the mental strength will be tested for a young Associate team like Nepal,” he said. “Twenty-four hours from now we will be planning, discussing and moving towards the stadium to play against Bangladesh. It is very important to remember the processes that have helped us so far.”Nepal fans had their spirits high despite rain hindrances•ICC/Getty Images

The narrative around Nepal’s cricket also involves their fans. They play in front of packed audiences back home, and it was no different in Dallas, Lauderhill and Kingstown. Desai appreciated the massive support but also wanted them to understand that Nepal’s progress depended on playing big teams and winning big moments.”I think the biggest success story of Nepal cricket is about these innocent fans,” he said. “I say innocent because I am only looking at it through my lens. I know when I walk across the Tribhuvan University ground [in Kirtipur], I see so many of those Nepali fans on the banks, they might be having daily jobs, daily wages to live their life and they leave that and come to watch the game and support these young dreams.”They have stood with the umbrellas in the rain in the past. When we qualified [for the T20 World Cup], they were standing on the roof, they were climbing the trees. There are so many layers to the definition of ‘fans’ as the 12th man for Nepal cricket. I am sure it will be very hard right now for them to soak in their emotions. Cricket is cruel sometimes. Again, I say South Africa had already qualified, we just needed to cross the line and stay alive in this tournament.”I urge the fans back home to keep supporting these young dreams with the limited resources, not using an excuse. I think we have taken strides. The more we get exposure against these Test nations, again another opportunity tomorrow, we’ll go to that [game] against Bangladesh, and I think we’ll be up for it. I know all it requires now in those one-ball battles is courage and that is something which we are instilling and moulding in these young dreams.”Meanwhile, Bangladesh fast bowler Tanzim Hasan has said that they will not take Nepal lightly as the format doesn’t allow any team to hold momentum for too long.”There is no small or big team in T20 cricket,” he said. “We try to see each team equally. Because T20 is a game of momentum. It is a game of only 20 overs. No one can say when the momentum changes. We try to take each team equally. We will play aggressive cricket. We will stick to our place. It doesn’t matter who the opponent is. We will try to play equally with everyone.”

Rangers target once worth £38m is now open to Ibrox transfer after contact

Rangers and Russell Martin have been given a transfer boost with one experienced target open to moving to Ibrox this summer.

Rangers line up more transfer targets after Cameron

The Gers’ transfer business ahead of the 2025/26 Scottish Premiership season is underway, with midfielder Lyall Cameron becoming the first official signing of the Martin era.

A pre-contract agreement was reached back in February before the 49ers took over and appointed Martin, but Cameron will look to become a key member of the new manager’s starting line-up.

Talking to Rangers’ official media after completing his move, Cameron said: “It is amazing to walk in the door, it is a privilege really. I have been looking forward to it for a long time.

“It was a no-brainer as soon as Rangers came in, I was desperate to be here. It is obviously a massive club and the history and everything about it is just amazing. Being from Scotland, I know what the club stands for, so I just wanted to jump at the chance.”

Following on from Cameron, Rangers now appear to be turning their attention to defensive additions, with Bournemouth right-back Max Aarons a target at Ibrox.

A player who Martin is well aware of from his time managing in England, Aarons actually spent the second half of the 24/25 campaign on loan at Valencia and looks to be surplus to requirements at the Vitality Stadium.

Contact has been made by Rangers over a loan move, however, Bournemouth would prefer a permanent exit for the defender they spent £7m on.

Another target at the back is Leicester City central defender Conor Coady. An approach has also been made for the experienced centre-back, with Rangers are “very keen” to sign the Foxes man.

ByDan Emery Jun 19, 2025

Leicester, following their relegation from the Premier League, are also open to selling Coady, and another promising development over a move to Scotland has now emerged.

Conor Coady open to signing for Rangers

According to Rangers Review, Coady is a personal target for Martin and new sporting director Kevin Thelwell, who worked with the 32-year-old at Wolves and Everton.

In the report it says Coady is ‘keen on a move to Ibrox – with initial contact established and a move having been explored last summer’. This comes as a boost for Martin and Rangers chiefs, and with Coady once valued at £38m during his time at Wolves, could be on to a shrewd signing.

Due to still being under contract at the King Power Stadium, a transfer fee will be required for the England international and a deal ‘could still drag on into next month’.

Should Rangers get their man in Coady, they will be getting an experienced centre-back who has been hailed by former Everton teammate Abdoulaye Doucoure.

“He is going to help us a lot this season. All the times I have played against him, he was a good character and very consistent. We are very happy to have him in our team – he is a leader.”

Man Utd plot bid to sign £250m+ 'new Neymar' who's been likened to Bruno

Manchester United are preparing a bid to sign a Paris Saint-Germain star who is statistically similar to Bruno Fernandes.

Onana errors cost Man Utd against Lyon

Ruben Amorim’s side failed to return from their Europa League quarter-final first leg against Lyon with an advantage after being held to a 2-2 draw in France.

It was another game to forget for goalkeeper Andre Onana, who made two errors, the last of which came in stoppage time to allow Rayan Cherki to equalise.

The build-up to the game was overshadowed by Nemanja Matic’s comments on Onana, with the Red Devils ‘keeper hitting back at the former United midfielder.

Onana’s days at Old Trafford could be numbered, with a new shot-stopper on the radar in Brighton & Hove Albion’s Bart Verbruggen.

Contact has been made over a move to sign the Dutchman to replace Onana, and by the looks of things, INEOS are looking to make a marquee signing further up the pitch.

Man Utd prepare bid for £250m+ PSG star Doue

According to reports in Spain, Man Utd are preparing a bid to sign PSG star Desire Doue. The Red Devils have ‘strongly reactivated its interest’ in the 19-year-old, who those at Old Trafford see ‘as a figure capable of making a difference’.

Doue, who PSG value at up to €300m (£261m), scored a brilliant goal against Aston Villa in the Champions League recently. The report adds that United see Doue as a top-level target, however, PSG aren’t looking to sell the teenager who’s been likened to Neymar and idolises the Brazil legend.

Interestingly though, as per FBRef, over the last 12 months Doue also compares stylistically to United skipper Fernandes, and has ranked in the top 1% for take-ons and assists when compared to other attacking midfielders.

Luis Enrique has also praised Doue, who can turn out on the wing or as an attacking midfielder, saying: “I remember you criticised him. Today it’s praise, but one day the criticism will return because the elite level means you have to accept that when you’re not at your best. Doue needed months to adapt. Succeeding at PSG as a Frenchman is tougher.

“At Rennes, we saw his technical ability, physicality, and personality. Now, he’s reaping the rewards of his hard work. There’s still plenty to do, but he’s at the right place and club to grow and play high-stakes matches. The Champions League level, as I tell the players, is like international duty – you’re up against the best players and coaches.”

A move to Manchester could well be one to keep an eye on, but with a staggering asking price, INEOS will need to break the bank to bring Doue to England.
